The Village of Sussex will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, April 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pauline Haass Public Library, located at N64W23820 Main Street, to help shape the future look of the Main Street Streetscape. The meeting will consider such possible amenities as crosswalks, street signs, benches, trash/recycling receptacles, street lights and more. Comments will be noted for the record as will votes for what items residents most prefer.
Stop by at any point between 4 and 7 p.m. to look at pictures of different streetscape amenities and to cast your vote for what you most want to see along the corridor. Village staff and consultants will be present to answer your questions. No formal presentation will be held.
“The selection of streetscape amenities is a critical aspect to the Main Street project and we hope the public attends to give their valuable opinions on what the corridor should look like,” stated Melissa Weiss, Assistant Village Administrator.
Main Street is scheduled for reconstruction in 2018. It is likely that one phase of the project will be constructed in 2016. The public and elected officials have been developing a vision for Main Street based on the 2011 Downtown Plan. Conceptual plans have wrapped up and now the Village is working on final design. The Village’s Community Development Authority will be playing a vital role in streetscape design, along with the public, by making recommendations on streetscape amenities or the “look and feel” of the corridor. All votes and received at the public meeting on April 29th will be compiled for the Community Development Authority and Village Board to consider.
